Profile of Tosoh Hellas

Tosoh Hellas S.A. was established in 1973 under the corporate name “Tekkosha Hellas S.A.” by the Japanese firms Tekkosha and Mitsubishi Corporation, sharing a 65% - 35% holding respectively.

In 1987 when the parent company changed its profile, the company was also renamed and today bears the name of the Japanese group Tosoh Corporation, one of the world’s most highly acclaimed producers and suppliers of inorganic chemicals, petrochemicals and specialist materials.

With its headquarters in the Sindos Industrial Area of Thessaloniki, Tosoh Hellas has been active since 1976 in the production of electrolytic manganese dioxide (commercial known as EMD), an essential key component for the production of dry cells (commonly known as batteries).

As of December 2021, the parent company Tosoh Corporation owns 100% of the Company's share capital.

The straight-forward yet flexible organisational structure of Tosoh Hellas is based on the simplified allocation of tasks between sectors, relying both on the effective management of each individual sector and on overall supervision of how the organisation operates.

Tosoh Hellas is a member of the International Manganese Institution (IMnI), a not-for-profit organisation that represents producers, suppliers and consumers of manganese, and manganese-based products, whose purpose is to provide guidance to ensure the sustainability and social and environmental responsibility of the sector.

In the context of the European REACH Regulation (Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals), a system for recording and evaluating the possible risks of chemical compounds for man’s health and safety and for nature, Tosoh Hellas has assumed the role of lead registrant and has submitted a dossier to the European Commission for approval on behalf of interested producers and importers of manganese dioxide in Europe.

As a founding member of the Hellenic Association of Chemical Industries, it is one of the largest chemical industries in Europe represented on the European Chemical Industry Council (CEFIC).
