Seeking to improve its environmental performance indicators, in the period 2001-2010, Tosoh Hellas completed a series of projects that drastically improved its environmental footprint. The most important of these are listed below:
- Replacement of high sulphur content crude oil with natural gas;
- Development of an environmental management system in line with the international ISO 14001 standard;
- Installation of a meteorological station;
- Extension of the road damping system and connection of the system to the meteorological station;
- Installation of sound reduction equipment to reduce noise levels at the dust removal systems on the final product grinders and dust removal systems at the Final Product Processing Department;
- Replacement of the absorption stack with a new, higher capacity one, to curb H2S emissions generated during the sulphiting process;
- Replacement of condensers containing PCB insulators with environmentally-friendly condensers;
- Installation of instruments to automatically monitor dust emissions from the End Product Processing Department;
- Installation of an odour removal system at the electrolysis unit; and
- Installation of a system to evaluate suppliers and subcontractors based on their environmental performance.
